  • Football Match

    Mon 27 Feb 2023

On Monday the 27th of February Fordcombe played a match against Hever Primary School. In the first moment of the game Hever scored a beautiful volley past our keeper to make it 1-0. They scored 2 more amazing goals until our midfielder Harvey smashed an unstoppable ball into the left corner to make it 3-1. Just before half time Hever smashed a long ball down the field on to their striker’s right foot to make a wonderful shocking goal that snuck past our keeper to make the halftime result 4-1.
As we finished our oranges and quickly glugged our water down we made our way to the pitch to kick off the next half. We had about 6 shots on target but none went in. Hever made a quick goal by a sloppy pass from a defender. They scored a header that bounced from a corner and 2 more volleys that flung from their half in to our half and smashed in at rocket speed. But in that half we had the most possession but we just needed more defenders to stay down so we’d concede less goals. We kept our heads up and when the fulltime whistle blew we spurred each other on with a hip hip hooray and enjoyed a well-earned snack of biscuits and squash. Written by Herbie.

  • World Book Week at Fordcombe

    Mon 27 Feb 2023

Many thanks to Mrs Saxty for organising a super Book Week last week. From the visit of Welsh poet, Alex Wharton (who played us into assembly with some blues, to a set of performance poetry and then workshops through the day), to a Reading Safari on Tuesday, Character Dress-Up day on Thursday and Book Swap on Friday, it was a busy, enjoyable week. Many thanks to all those parents that joined us on Thursday and came into classrooms to see what pupils have been doing in English—a lovely way to get everyone involved.

  • STEM Afternoon

    Wed 01 Feb 2023

Pupils on Wednesday afternoon worked in mixed-age groups on a STEM (Science Technology Engineering and Maths) project to build bridges. We started experimenting with sheets of paper aiming to increase the strength of a span needed to carry weight across a 20cm gap. Limited to four sheets of A4 paper and 15 cm of masking tape, it was an interesting challenge. Cylinders and triangles seem to be the key to building a strong structure. We moved on to creating box girder bridges—again from paper and split pins.
