Year 5 Resilience and Self-Esteem Workshop

Year 5 pupils from Fordcombe joined other Year 5 pupils from Hever, Ide Hill, Edenbridge, Four Elms and Penshurst Primary schools on the final Friday of term for a workshop on this really important theme. The workshop stemmed from a conversation with other headteachers about issues facing pupils in the Tunbridge Wells and Sevenoaks area (particularly around the pressures of exams/tests and a desire to achieve well in them), and then a subsequent conversation with Sara Barker on the school gate. I am very grateful for Sara for suggesting a workshop and then leading a group of very talented people from three local charities and West Kent Youth services to bring 120 children together from local schools to benefit from this expertise. Many thanks to Ali Tranter, Jenni Lowry and Karen Hickson-Smith (Life & Soul), Sara (Crossways Community) and Mike Harrowing (High Hopes) for an informative and fun afternoon aimed at getting pupils to recognise problems that they may be having and then giving them some strategies to cope with these problems.
