Oak class Science - A heart dissection

This week Oak class were lucky to have a visit from Mrs Finch, a fantastic Science teacher (and Matthew's mum). She brought with her a real pig's heart for the children to observe up-close.

She showed the children the inner workings of the heart, and we could clearly see the valves and tendons. We were all really interested to see how the left ventricle of the heart is much thicker due to having to pump blood all around the body.

Some very intrigued Scientists wanted a closer look and were surprised how strong the tendons were and how heavy the heart was.

Here are some photos (if you are squeamish, look away now!)
