One of the highlights of last year for me was watching the Year 5 and 6 netball team (who got soundly beaten at the start of the year) grow and develop into a team that not only held their own at the end of year netball festivals but started winning games. The sense of pride, satisfaction and achievement that accompanied this effort was tangible. The fact that the children involved had needed to listen, learn and practice hard was a real lesson in how success comes with resilience, application and work. I am a big fan of the power of sport, not just for the physical exercise it brings but also for the social element in team games and the enjoyment of being active that any sport can bring. It was lovely that at the end of the year we were again awarded the PE Gold Mark which recognised effort that staff and volunteers at Fordcombe put in each week and also the commitment of parents to school sport as they ferry pupils back and forth to local fixtures. Well done to all.
